King vs. Split King: which is right for you?
Short answer: both are the same overall size, 76″ × 80″. A King has one mattress over two bases that move together. A Split King has two 38″ × 80″ mattress halves, so each side can raise and lower on its own.

Why a King uses two bases
Adjustable bases for a King are built as two Twin XL bases. Under a one-piece King mattress they lift together, so the whole bed moves as one. Each base lifts up to 850 lb, 1,700 lb in total.
When a Split King makes sense
If one of you likes to read with your head raised while the other sleeps flat, a Split King lets each side move independently. The halves sit side by side, so the bed looks and sleeps like a King.
Bedding
A King uses standard King bedding. Many couples use a regular King duvet on a Split King, with either one King fitted sheet or two Twin XL fitted sheets. Split King sheet sets are made for exactly this.
